Driving is life for all bus, coach and lorry drivers in the UK, yet they also hold the life of their passengers and their shipments. It's most critical for drivers to stay alert and focused.
Check out these factors to make sure that you're fit to drive today:
Serious physical or medical conditions
Do you have any heart conditions, epilepsy or other mobility issues? The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) Medical Branch requires all drivers to report any health issues lasting more than 3 months that may impair driving.
Eyesight
Can you see and read clearly? The law states that you must be able to read a vehicle number plate, in good daylight, from a distance of 20-20.5 metres. Wear your glasses or contact lenses at all times while driving.
Fatigue
Do you feel drowsy and sleepy? Driving when you're tired increases your risk of accidents. Make sure to take 15-minute breaks every couple of hours and try not to drive in the wee hours of midnight to dawn. When you're really sleepy, stop in a safe place and take a nap.
Age
Are you 70 years old and above? While there's no legal age when you have to stop driving, you have to renew your license every three years after you turn 70. Getting older can mean that sight, hearing and reaction times may slightly slow down.
